Drug testing is an effective way to protect your organization from the detrimental effects of drug abuse. A drug testing program will deter drug users from joining your workforce, and discourage employees from reporting to work when under the influence and unfit for duty.

Substance abuse is not limited to any one category of employees. It occurs with skilled and unskilled labor, and can be prevalent in a corporate environment. It has been statistically reported by the U.S. Dept. of Labor and other federal agencies that substance abuse in the workplace causes increased medical and worker’s compensation costs due to accidents and illness, increased absenteeism, decreased productivity and morale, and higher turnover. These negative effects of substance abuse are extremely costly to the employer and pose unnecessary risks and liability. With the high percentage of substance abusers among today’s workforce candidates, employers can’t afford to forgo testing.

Zaeplex offers full service drug and alcohol testing programs for both regulated and non-regulated employers. As a single source provider of employment screening and drug testing programs, Zaeplex is dedicated to your goal of hiring and maintaining a highly qualified, productive drug-free workforce.

There are many compelling reasons to drug test. A safer workplace, a more productive workforce, higher morale, and reduced liability are foremost. There are many more specific reasons for drug testing:

  • To comply with state or federal regulations.
  • To comply with your insurance carrier's requirements.
  • To match other company's efforts, so that you are not hiring substance abusers rejected by your competitors.
  • To comply with the contract requirements of your customers.
  • To establish grounds for disciplinary action or termination.
  • To improve safety.
  • To deter casual or recreational drug users.
  • To send a powerful message to employees that the cost of doing drugs is too high.

An effective drug testing program first requires a drug testing policy. Drug testing can occur at many stages of employment, including pre-hire, but it must be determined if drug testing is required or optional for your organization. Zaeplex can help you to determine what your testing program should include, and assist with policy development and implementation of procedures.
