December 2004:  FACTA, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, added new sections to the Fair Credit Report Act (FCRA).  FACTA was developed to assist consumers in the battle against identity theft, to help them to recover when it does occur, and to ensure that all citizens are treated fairly when applying for credit.  FACTA affects both consumers and consumer reporting agencies.  The following links provide information on the specific provisions of the act.
