Understanding the Background Check Process Q: What is included in my background check? The criteria is determined by the organization requesting the background check. It may include a review of criminal records, employment, education, and/or driving records. Other types of reports may also be requested depending on the job position. Q: How long will my background check take? Providing complete and accurate information on your background inquiry form will help to expedite the process. Depending on the type of reports in your background check, the typical completion time is 1-3 business days. If we must rely on a third party for a response, like a an employer, school or a personal reference, it may take longer. Q: Do I need to prepare for my background check? The best preparation is to have accurate historical information available, prior to beginning submission of your background check documents. Supplying complete and accurate information, such as a full 7-10 year address history; employment history including company name, address, phone number, dates of employment, and title; educational information including school name, address, year of completion, type of degree or diploma, will help avoid delays, and make the verification process flow more efficiently. The time frame for your background check is based on the requesting organization's program and the type of reports. A common background check is based on 7 years of address history. A criminal conviction older than 7 years may be reported, unless a specific regulation disallows it. Q: How will my criminal record affect my ability to be hired? The organization where you applied should have a decision making process, used in conjunction with policy and applicable laws, about types of criminal records that might disqualify a candidate for specific positions. 1800Background.com takes no part in the decision making process and cannot inform you of the company's hiring policies or reasons for disqualification. Q: Will I be drug tested? This is determined by the organization where you applied. 1800Background.com partners with a drug testing provider for occupational drug testing. Inquire with your prospective employer to find out if drug testing is part of their screening program. Q: How do I know when my background check or drug test result is complete? To check the status, please contact the organization where you applied. Q: How do I dispute information in my background check if I believe it is inaccurate or incomplete? Please follow the Dispute Process below and 1800Background.com will re-investigate the disputed information. The prospective employer will be immediately notified of your dispute. Please do not miss any steps to avoid a delay in processing. The Fair Credit Reporting Act provides 30 days for re-investigation of disputed information, however 1800Background.com will diligently work on completing your request in a shorter time-frame to assist you in moving forward.

Provide the specific nature of your dispute. For example, criminal case number CF-123456 does not belong to me, or charge #3 on case CR-123456 was dismissed. Provide any detail or documentation that will assist us in expediting the re-investigation of your dispute. We will notify the company where you applied of receipt of your dispute. 6. Notify us of how you want the response sent back to you, either email or U. S. Mail. If you emailed your dispute to us, and want our response sent to a different email address, you must provide the specific email address. If your mailing address has changed since you applied with the company, please provide your current address.
